Van Wyck JHS: Guidance Office Print

Our guidance counselors provide services to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
In September they visit new students in their classrooms for the purpose of orientations. During these orientation meetings guidance counselors answer general questions about what they do and how they can help students, what help is available if a student is in trouble, and when students may see a guidance counselor.

One of the primary functions of the guidance counselor is to give students the tools to deal with academic, social or emotional problems. These tools will help each student to be as successful in Van Wyck as possible.

Our Student Handbook
contains details on the following topics:

  • Academic Planning
  • Change of Placement
  • Group Counseling
  • Homework Request (when students are absent for two or more consecutive days)
  • Information Service
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Passes to the Guidance Office
  • Referral Service

Please see the Guidance Counselor Directory for current Guidance Counselor assignments.
